If you are familiar with music festivals, then you know EDC. Electronic Daisy Carnival is a music festival that happens in Las Vegas. Not on the strip, but in a huge NASCAR racetrack in the desert roughly 90 minutes out of the city without traffic, or three hours on the Friday night of EDC. Every year, ravers from around the globe trot over to Las Vegas so they can dance in the desert all night. In the fourth weekend of June every year, on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, EDC begins at 7 pm and lasts until 6 am. This is not a sprint; it is a marathon.
This year I didn’t go because I chose another festival happening the week before, but I did go in June 2016. Those who went last year will have fond memories, and those who went this year will now have fully recovered. I say that because Las Vegas is absolutely insane. Last year I convinced myself it was a good idea that my friends and I should go for a week, and then I convinced them. It wasn’t. Here is a quick list of what we did in 2016:
Thursday, June 23: Attend Above & Beyond pool party at Wet Republic, go back to hotel, have a limo pick us up to take a helicopter to the Grand Canyon, fly 90 minutes to the centre of the canyon, have a champagne picnic right by the river, fly back and go to sleep.
Friday, June 24: Go ATVing in the hot Nevada desert to get all sandy, go back to the hotel, get festival ready, grab some food and alcohol, hop on the bus at 8 pm, sit three hours in traffic, party all night in the desert and head back at 6 am.
Saturday, June 25: Sleep all morning, go to the pool, sleep by the pool, grab food and alcohol, get festival ready, hop back on the bus at 9 pm to the desert, party all night and head back at 6 am.
Sunday, June 26: Same thing as Saturday.
Wednesday, June 29: Pack our bags, leave the hotel, jump on a plane, and FINALLY get out of the city that never sleeps.
By the end of that week, we were begging to leave because we gave Las Vegas hell. That city is one to remember, or not, but definitely something everyone should experience. My advice? NEVER go for longer than 4 nights, unless you have a death wish, like we apparently did. Remember baes, you do your bliss above all else, before anything else, it would be rude not to.
